Bio:
Instantly influenced by DJ’s such as Terminator X of Public Enemy, Eric B., Jazzy-Jay of Soul Sonic Force and Grandmaster DXT. Started doing house parties playing mostly top 40 and hip hop off of a Radio Shack mixer and a couple CD players. When I got to high school I started doing most of the dances. During that time I opened up to classic rock, punk, modern rock, trip hop and a small amount of electronic dance music (EDM).
After high school I went to college for a year and got kicked out, because I wanted to pursue a career in Stupid Behavior (use your imagination). I went back to doing house parties and occasional high school dances. When I finally got over myself I went back to school and picked up a part-time job DJ’n for a promotional event company. This allowed me to travel and DJ in cities like Milwaukee, Chicago, Indianapolis, Mesa, Albuquerque, Dallas, Houston, Galveston Island, South Padre Island, San Diego, Salt Lake City, …..Sioux Falls……seriously, and of course Minneapolis. At this time I was still spinning top 40 with a little bit of the popular dance music tracks. It wasn’t until 2000 that I switched my style as a DJ. I was so sick of getting a crowd off with music they knew (or are told to like by radio and Mtv) and figured it to be a truly challenging, but also a satisfying feeling, to get people off with music they’re not too familiar with.
I was easily influenced by DJ’s such as Richard Humpty Vission and Bad Boy Bill. Once I started to get a little more educated about the different styles and genres of EDM, I found myself being more involved with house music. I learned about the roots of house and learned about the pioneers like Ron Hardy and Farley Jackmaster Funk. I also learned what the first parties were like in the Southside of Chi and most importantly what makes the music tick. Fast-forward to now and I’m still spinning house music. Today my style has become a lot more refined and influences have gone from RHV and BBB to Mark Farina, DJ Heather, The Littlemen, Sound Republic, Johnny Fiasco, Miguel Migs, Matt Shrewd, Sonny Fodera, Derrick Carter, Da Sunlounge, Inland Knights, etc.

Funk Yeah! FM presents DJ XEL – 7/03/2011
Jul 2nd
Coming up this Sunday, Jack, and his friend Funk return to Funk Yeah! FM with a special local guest DJ from Minneapolis… DJ XEL
Join us this Sunday as we celebrate America’s independence a little early by streaming us online or on your smart phone on Chicago House FM from 6pm – 8pm CST (11pm – 1am GMT)
DJ XEL is no stranger to electronic dance culture. This native Chicagoan started mixing old-skool funk and soul records at the age of 14, after attending his first high school dance. During the early years, DJ XEL would record mixes of the legendary Hot Mix 5, and study them to hone his mixing skills.
27 years later, DJ XEL is still rockin the Wheels of steel, spinning deep soulful house, jacking house, acid jazz and everything in between, finding creative ways to bring music and people together. After a recent relocation to Minneapolis, DJ XEL has teamed up with Richy Rivera, to play together under the name Deep Grooves, as well as throwing parties under the name SideStream Productions. You can find them playing around the Twin Cities at venues such as Darby’s, Honey, and various one off events. The next step for DJ XEL is to head into the studio and begin working on his own productions, so stay tuned.
…..May the FUNK be with you.

Funk Yeah! FM presents KyleWyld April 10th 6-8pm CST
Apr 4th
Coming up this Sunday, get down and get funky with KyleWyld LIVE in the Funk Yeah! FM studio.
Residing in Minneapolis, MN, Kyle’s musical roots go back to the mid-nineties and hip hop, but after hearing a Terry Mullan mixtape in 1997, he kicked hip hop to the curb, and fell in love with house. With over a decade of immersion in Minneapolis dance music, his passion for house runs deep, with sets that are raw, funky, and soulful, often with a dose of the true Chicago sound. As part of Nu Paradigm, he helped to provide a diverse showcase of local artists, with emphasis on an edgy, underground sound. Kyle’s only goal as a DJ is to rock the fucking party. His sets are serious business. Believe it.
Come catch the live action at chicagohousefm.co.uk from 6pm – 8pm CST!

Funk Yeah! FM Feat. Lee Jarvis – Nov 28th @ 6pm – 8pm CST (11pm – 1am GMT)
Nov 21st
Funk Yeah! is at it once again with a favorite DJ hailing from London (err… Chicago now?) who has rocked the parties for a lengthy amount of time and is a staple in the House Music scene. Lee Jarvis (4Kenzo, Lost My Dog, 1200 traxx) does more than simply DJ. Lee is an Industry consultant. DJ. Producer. Remixer. Label dude. Event promoter. Music lover.
Funk Yeah! is very fortunate to have Lee as a guest, and looking forward to his mix and special interview. Tune in by going to Chicago House FM on Sunday at 6pm – 8pm CST (11pm – 1am GMT).
Lee Jarvis is one of the most exciting young DJs to emerge from the London scene in the last few years, playing his own blend of fun-fuelled jackin’ house, all mixed with his customary energy and passion. Lee has played at many of London’s major venues including Turnmills, Egg, The Cross, the Ministry of Sound, plus several UK, Europe and Chicago gigs.
Lee knows what makes a dancefloor move, having also run his own successful party, Moochin, for the last five years. It has become one of the most respected nights on the UK underground jackin’ scene, with a loyal crowd and featuring only the freshest new music, and guest DJs have included Massimo Dacosta, Giom, The Inland Knights, Jacob London, Joey Youngman, Lee Mortimer and many more.
Alongside his burgeoning DJ career, Lee has been perfecting his production skills and busy nights in the studio have resulted in some killer tracks for labels such as 4Kenzo, Lost My Dog and 1200 traxx. These have been picked up and supported by key players on the jackin’ scene, ranging from Mark Farina to Diz to Justin Long to Colette to Demarkus Lewis to Harold Heath.
Check out the complexities that is Lee Jarvis:
